I don't have to tel any of you that I am highly partisan when it comes to my politics, do I? I mean, if you spent any time reading my blog between January and November of 2008, you know full-well that I am a committed Democrat, and more importantly, a hard core progressive (yes, I know that those things don't always mean the same thing). I have spent no small amount of my blogging time, blasting Republican office-holders, from that idiot currently occupying the White House, to local jerk-off members of the Virginia House of Delegates... not to mention certain Senators and Governors who had cause to be in my rhetorical sights. It's no secret, I'm not at all fond of Republicans in general, or their politicians in particular.
Are we clear? Good.
My distaste for Republican politics, and my adherence to the Democratic party have nothing to do with my hatred of corruption. I hate dirty politicians with almost the same fervor as I hate dirty cops. The entire Larry Craig debacle of last year was sickening, as was the Jack Abramoff/Scooter Libby/Duke Cunningham/Alberto Gonzales series of scandals/crimes.
As much as I despise dirty politicians, I despise them further still when they are members of my own party.
Consider the case of that Jefferson fellow in Louisiana... Gee, Congressman, exactly WHY is it you have all of that cash wrapped in foil in your freezer? More importantly, the current case of Governor Rod Blagojevich and his peddling of a Senate seat.
Really.
Selling a Senate seat, Governor? Are you some sort of a megalomaniacal idiot? Maybe you can be best described as a greedy, money-grubbing, influence peddling, dirty dealing, scumbag, CRIMINAL?
To tell you the truth, I barely have the words to talk about this. This sort of criminal behavior shouldn't shock me, but it does. A sitting Governor actually planned to get rich by giving an appointment to the highest bidder. It is beyond belief, regardless of party affiliation.
I'm not even going to start talking about the details of the case until it develops further, but just on it's face, it's something right out of a prime-time television drama.
Shame. Shame. Everlasting shame on you, Governor.
You, sir, are going to prison. You are going to do serious time, and you will deserve every bit of it, not only for statutory crimes, but also the violation of the public trust.
