No.
Really?
Sarah Palin?
This is either the most brilliant bit of political theater in the history of American politics, or the stupidest thing that I have ever heard of.
It's bad enough that the Dan Quayle comparison is already being made, but it gets even worse.... but, before I go there, I have to say a few things, just so we are clear about my positions, right out of the gate:
1. Sara Palin is a Christian. Great. I don't use a religious litmus test
2. Sara Palin is a working mother. Great, I was raised by a working mom, and am married to a strong, exceptionally smart, accomplished career woman.
3. Sarah Palin is all about ethics in government. Hey, no worries, I work for Uncle Sam, and I am all about the ethics.
4. Sarah Palin is a homeschooler. Hey, knock yourself out. Nothing wrong with homeschooling, although, I don't know how you will find the time to homeschool while you are supposed to be campaigning.
5. I'm not interested in her family life... as long as she isn't going to run on some sort of "morals" platform, in which case, my gloves will come off.
OK... moving on. It shouldn't take anyone more than just a few minutes to work out that Sarah Palin is allowing herself to be used by her party in order to give the GOP a "new look".
Governor Palin is, essentially, a nobody. You can't really begin to convince me that were it not for John McCain throwing up the hail-mary pass that this particular person would EVER be considered for the Vice Presidential nomination, can you?
I suppose the McCain camp is so desperate, that they believe the Sarah Palin will somehow become a viable alternative for the so-caled PUMA's, who claim to be Democrats, but want to vote for a woman so much that they'll vote for any woman, even this one, whose remarks frequently put me in mind of nothing so much as Dick Cheney in a skirt.
In conversations with a few women, not all of whom are ardent Obama supporters, I have heard the word "insulted" several times when discussing the GOP move to put Palin on the ticket... even that PUMA crackpot Darragh whatsherface can't think that this is a good idea. Oh wait, crazy Darragh DOES think it was a good idea... giving creedence to what I said some days ago about the PUMA leadership being chock full o' Republicans.
Anyway, Governor Palin is a hard-core conservative, and as such, she is, in no way, going to broaden the number of people that will vote for McCain. Sure, she might be the fig leaf that some Republican holdouts will need in order to swallow hard and vote for Johnny Walnuts, but at the end of the day, if the GOP had so shore up it's base, this late in the day, they are in more trouble than they can possibly express.
Haven't we had enough of pro-big oil Republicans? Haven't we had enough of the crying about taxes while we are fighting two wars? Haven't we had enough of the so-called "Family values" crowd? Haven't we had enough of those who are supported by religious zealots and crackpots like Gary Bauer?, Haven't we had enough poor scholars and know-nothings in the White House?
Haven't we had enough of Dick Cheney?
So why would we vote for Dick Cheney in a skirt? (and her Granddad)... is that what America needs right now??
